An important guideline in the Carnex Meat Industry’s business policy is managing special waste flows balanced with the aims of environment protection. A significant amount of waste or secondary raw material is generated on a daily basis in JSC Carnex during various operating processes. By its nature, the largest amount of generated waste is non-hazardous waste as well as waste of an organic origin.
Non-hazardous waste from JSC Carnex, according to the waste hierarchy, is taken over by firms authorized for recycling and treatment of waste, while the largest amount of waste coming from animal slaughtering is being processed in the rendering plant, which is a part of the Meat Industry and which is registered for the safe processing of category 3 materials. The most significant is animal waste arisen from animal slaughtering and meat processing, which requires special attention due to its organic characteristics. Animal waste material decomposes extremely quickly and attracts rodents, insects, producing an unpleasant odour. One of the most significant group of waste is non-hazardous waste which is classified as non-hazardous due to its characteristics. This group contains waste such as aluminum foil from the packaging production, waste from plastic crates, barrels, PET packaging, waste wooden paletts, iron waste generated in the process of writing off old machines, used pneumatic vehicle tyres as well as cardboard waste.
A crucial step towards the correct attitude to waste management is raising public consciousness regarding the importance of adequate waste treatment and environment protection. Continuous education of all the employees, from those working in the production plant to those representing top management, is of high importance in every industry in order to decrease waste generation and contribute to the reduction of environment degradation.
