After graduating from the Faculty of Economics in Novi Sad, Miodrag Kostić started acquiring experience in the world of private entrepreneurship, which he has successfully built and developed in the past 30 years. At present he is one of the leading businessmen in our country, and in the entire region of Eastern Europe.
A small private company for trade, import-export and production was established in 1983 and after years of successful business it has evolved into a business system with 35 enterprises and more than 4500 workers in Serbia and the Ukraine. After 12 years of stable and constant development of agricultural production, trade, brokerage investments, banking and consulting, these companies joined into one company called MK Group.
Miodrag Kostić recognized that Vojvodina was one of the most fertile soils for growing sugar beet in Europe, so for that reason he became the owner of three sugar mills in Vojvodina back in 2002, and a year later MK Commerce bought one of the oldest sugar factories in Vrbas "Bačka". In 2006, as an extension of his vision, Miodrag Kostic founded the company Sunoko, as a joint venture between two major companies, the domestic MK Commerce and the German Nordzucker, with the common aim of strengthening his position on the European sugar market. Four years later MK Group had once again become the majority-owner of Sunoko and today, with its four sugar factories in Vrbas, Pećinci, Kovačica and Bač, it is the largest domestic producer and exporter of sugar. At that time one of the strategic goals of Sunoko was to elevate sugar production in Serbia to the European level, which, with the latest technology and "know -how", it has succeeded in achieving. Today Miodrag Kostić's visionary venture is supported by the fact that the sugar industry is one of the few branches of Serbian industry that can compete with EU producers.
Passion for new challenges has taken Miodrag Kostić to new fields, such as an investment into a hotel and apartment complex in Kopaonik and the establishment of a new company, MK Mountain Resort, under whose auspices are the hotels Grand and Angella and the holiday resort Konaci „Sunčani Vrhovi”. In addition to tourism, new investments will be connected to the development of renewable energy sources where MK Fintel Wind will have as its primary activity the production of "green" electricity. In mid-November of 2011 a domestic company, Carnex, a leader in the production of meat and meat byproducts in Serbia, became part of MK Group.
As a man who is at the head of the currently largest vertically integrated agricultural company in Europe with serious plans of expanding onto other markets, as well as a very versatile man, Miodrag Kostić is also the President of the Management Board of AIK Bank, an active member of the association of employers "Poslodavac," the President of the "Serbian-Belarus business council'' and a member of numerous local and international business associations.
Throughout the thirty years which Miodrag Kostić has spent in the business he has come to recognize that success is not a product of desire, but that it is entirely the product of labor, and not to be measured simply through numbers but by reputation and respect gained through that work. That's why, notwithstanding the incredible results achieved by MK Group, he strives to leave his mark on the community within which his company operates. To that end in 2012 he financed the construction of a house, for young people without parental care, at the SOS Children's Village in Kraljevo. Shortly after, during the summer of 2013, his family created the Kostić Foundation which became a new home for ailing children suffering from malignant cancers and seeking treatment at the "Institute for Healthcare Protection of Children and Youth of Vojvodina".
His knowledge, success, and persistence were crowned with numerous awards such as “Business Personality of the Year”, “The Most Successful Person in Vojvodina”, “The Most Successful Entrepreneur”, “The Best Manager in Southeastern Europe in 2011”. He is the recipient of the award “Car Dušan’s gold dinar-company of the decade”, “The Winner of Belgrade”, “Business Partner of the Year” and others. The company which he heads has been named as the most successful in Serbia and the region on several occasions
